"ROBBERS ROOST". UTAH

Location: Situated within the Canyonlands National Park section east of Hanksville, Utah.

History: Less than a thousand years ago a shy, reclusive people built against the mesa tops, forted up against who knows what enemy, then they vanished. Quite recently, Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch and other hunted men found this, the West's last best place to escape to. 

Ride: Sprawled across 320 square miles, the Roost, exceedingly remote and unchanged is as close to the Old West as America knows. Elevations rise from 5,000 - 6,500 feet. Land is high desert: piñon, sage and cedar flats, slashed by a maze of slick-rock gorges and canyons, mixed with long mesas, arches, pinnacles and high shouldered buttes. Shades of red predominate, dotted with green and touched with yellow, white and lavender. Rides are of infinite variety. Using a combination of base camp and packhorses as back-up, you will be out on the trail deep in the forbidding country of America's last best place.
